The Foster Grandparent Program seeks to improve the overall quality of life for the older adult volunteer and to help provide enrichment opportunities for children with special needs. The Foster Grandparent Program began on August 28, 1965 as a national demonstration effort to show how low-income individuals aged 55 and over have the maturity and experience to establish a personal relationship with children having either exceptional or special needs.

The Foster Grandparent Program is currently taking applications for tutors and looking for volunteers interested in working with the East side elementary schools.

The Foster Grandparent Program is a part of Senior Corps, along with RSVP and Senior Companions. Senior Corps is administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency that improves lives, strengthens communities, and fosters civic engagement through service and volunteering
